What happens if the Staff Member becomes unavailable?

Learn what happens if a confirmed Staff Member becomes unavailable, including when Quarterdeck may offer a substitute, how suitability is assessed, and when a refund may apply

If a confirmed Staff Member becomes unavailable before the Start Date, or if Quarterdeck reasonably decides that the person is no longer suitable for the Assignment, Quarterdeck may propose a substitute or alternative candidate.

When can this happen?

This can happen if the Staff Member is no longer available, is no longer suitable for the role, or cannot proceed for another reason before the Assignment begins. The Staff Booking Terms allow Quarterdeck to assess both availability and suitability, not just availability alone.

Will Quarterdeck try to replace them?

Yes. If Quarterdeck proposes a substitute, it will use reasonable endeavours to recommend someone who is reasonably suitable for the Assignment, taking into account the role, dates, location, experience level, and service requirements previously agreed.

Do I have to accept a substitute?

Not automatically. Quarterdeck may recommend an alternative, but the substitute still needs to be suitable for the Assignment. If Quarterdeck proposes a replacement or reasonable alternative arrangement and you reject it, Quarterdeck may treat the Booking as cancelled by you and apply the normal cancellation and refund rules.

What if no suitable substitute can be provided?

If no suitable substitute can be provided, or if Quarterdeck cancels the Booking, Quarterdeck will refund any sums paid by you in respect of the affected Booking.

Will Quarterdeck cover other costs?

No, not usually. The Staff Booking Terms say Quarterdeck is not liable for flights, accommodation, transport, provisioning, permit costs, visa costs, loss of opportunity, loss of profit, loss of enjoyment, or other indirect or consequential costs arising from cancellation, substitution, or unavailability, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

In summary

If a confirmed Staff Member becomes unavailable, Quarterdeck may propose a suitable substitute. If no suitable substitute can be provided, Quarterdeck will refund sums paid for the affected Booking. Other related costs are not usually covered.
