What do I need to consider if a female Staff Member will be working solo?

Learn what to consider if a female Staff Member will be working solo, including what Quarterdeck needs to know in advance about the environment, accommodation, privacy, and welfare arrangements.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If a female Staff Member will be working solo, especially in a private, live-in, remote, or predominantly male environment, you should tell Quarterdeck that clearly in advance. Quarterdeck needs enough information to assess whether the Assignment is suitable and whether any additional safeguards or conditions are needed.

What should I tell Quarterdeck?

You should disclose the working environment, who else will be present, the accommodation setup, any material risks, and any other detail that may affect suitability, safety, privacy, or welfare. The Staff Booking Terms already require you to provide all information reasonably necessary for the proper assessment and delivery of the Assignment, including the working environment, material risks, accommodation arrangements, and anything else that may affect safety or suitability.

What accommodation should I provide?

Accommodation should be safe, appropriate, and clearly described in advance. Where the role is live-in, you should be ready to explain sleeping arrangements, bathroom access, privacy, and who else is sharing the property or working environment. Quarterdeck’s terms place responsibility on the hiring party to provide a lawful, safe, and reasonably suitable working environment, and to handle accommodation arrangements on the client side unless QD has agreed otherwise in writing.

Why does this matter?

Quarterdeck needs this information to assess whether the Assignment is appropriate for the role and whether the environment is safe and suitable. If key information is missing, misleading, or the setup is considered unsafe or unsuitable, Quarterdeck may review, vary, suspend, or cancel the Booking.

What is expected from the hiring party?

You are expected to provide a lawful, professional, respectful, and non-discriminatory working environment that is reasonably suitable for the role and consistent with health, safety, safeguarding, and welfare requirements.

In summary

If a female Staff Member will be working solo, you should tell Quarterdeck about the environment, accommodation, privacy, and any material risks in advance. The key principle is simple: disclose the setup clearly and make sure the working and living conditions are safe, appropriate, and reasonably suitable for the role.
