What happens if I don’t pass Host Academy?

Explains what happens if you don't pass, and what is the likely reason.

Host Academy is designed to prepare you for real charter work, but not everyone passes on the first attempt. Passing requires you to demonstrate both professional cooking/hosting skills and the ability to work well under pressure in a team environment.

If you don’t pass, here’s what happens:

  • Detailed Feedback: Instructors will explain where you fell short — usually in areas like time management in the galley, meal quality/consistency, or social/communication skills with crew and guests.

  • Next Steps: You may be invited to reapply once you’ve built more experience (e.g., extra culinary training, more hosting work, or improved teamwork). Depending on timing and availability, you might also join the following Academy week to try again.

  • Alternative Pathways: Even if you don’t pass immediately, you can still stay in touch with Quarterdeck. Many who don’t pass the first time succeed later after refining their skills.

It’s worth noting that most candidates who fail do so because of either poor social/communication skills or difficulty coping with the pressure of cooking and hosting in a yacht environment. Preparation and practice are key to making sure you’re ready to shine.
