When you join Host Academy, you attend as a student or trainee, not as a worker or employed host. The Course is designed to give you practical training, supervised experience, and preparation for future host work, but attending Academy does not mean you are working professionally during the Course.
If any part of Host Academy takes place on a yacht, the designated instructor or skipper is the person responsible for the yacht and its operation. You are there to learn under supervision, not to act as onboard staff delivering a professional guest service role during the Course.
This means that, as an Academy student:
you are not joining as paid crew
you are not employed by Quarterdeck through Host Academy
you are attending a structured training programme
However, you must still comply with all safety, operational, and conduct requirements during the Course. This includes following the instructions of the instructor or skipper, attending safety briefings, carrying appropriate travel insurance, and disclosing any medical or other requirements that may affect your safe participation.
If you are asking about working as a host after Academy, the position is different. Professional host work may involve separate requirements relating to visas, work permits, and local rules.
