Do I need a visa to attend Culinary Academy?

Find out whether you need a visa to attend Culinary Academy, when a tourist visa may still be required, and how Culinary Academy differs from paid work or hospitality jobs.

In most cases, you do not need a work visa to attend Culinary Academy because you are joining as a student, not as an employee.

Culinary Academy is a training programme, not paid work. You attend to learn in a supervised course environment, not as hired kitchen staff.

However, you may still need a tourist visa or other permission to enter the country, depending on:

  • your nationality

  • where Culinary Academy takes place (Croatia for the land-based edition; the British Virgin Islands or another sailing destination for the yacht-based edition)

  • how long you plan to stay

It is your responsibility to check the entry requirements for your destination before you travel. Always check the relevant embassy, consulate, or official government travel website well in advance.

For the Croatia (Fort George) edition: Croatia is in the Schengen area, so for non-EU passport holders the standard 90 days in any 180-day rolling period rule applies. A 7-day course leaves plenty of headroom.

For the British Virgin Islands (yacht-based edition): most Western nationalities can enter as tourists for short stays. A small number of nationalities require a visa or pre-clearance. Verify with the BVI Immigration Department before booking flights.

Quarterdeck cannot arrange visas on your behalf. Once your place is secured and your first payment has been made, Quarterdeck can provide a confirmation of participation letter to support your visa application if needed.

If you are asking about working in hospitality or onboard roles after Academy, different visa or work permit rules may apply.
