First of all you need to fulfil the requirements.
Attach CV, Personal Letter, Skipper License AND list relevant work experience on your profile. One of the most common issues is no listed work experience
Key things we look for:
- Sailing skills - are you a sailor or not? We want sailors on the team.
- Skipper experience. What size yachts? How much? In what waters?
If you are missing that in your CV you need to motivate very clearly why you will be able to learn the skills fast at Academy. We accept persons with less experience if the personal letter highlights "undocumented" skills and interests.
At a later stage if you are invited to a video interview the questions are related to sailing and skipper knowledge. If you know the basic principles around sailing and sailing yachts you will be able to answer well. The questions are designed to identify who's lacking general sailing knowledge - as well as highlight those with experience.
If you consider applying ask yourself these questions:
- Will I be able to be a professional skipper on a 50ft yacht if I pass Skipper Academy?
- Will I be confident and handle the yacht and the guests onboard if there is a sudden storm or severe failure on the yacht?
- Will I be loved by my guests and colleagues?
Skipper Academy will trim your skills and help you manage the yacht. However it will not teach you basics of sailing.
