Outside of your cooking tools (see separate article), there are a few essentials you’ll need to bring to make your Academy week smooth and comfortable:

Clothing & Personal Gear

  • Light summer clothes – shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, dresses.

  • Warm layer – a hoodie or jacket for cooler evenings.

  • Swimwear – you’ll spend lots of time in the water.

  • Deck shoes / sneakers – with good grip for moving safely around yachts.

  • Flip flops / sandals – easy for on/off on deck or at the beach.

  • Rain jacket / windbreaker – for unexpected weather.

Sun Protection & Comfort

  • Sunglasses (polarised if possible) – essential on the water.

  • Sun hat / cap – to protect your head and face.

  • Sunscreen – high SPF, waterproof.

  • After-sun lotion or aloe vera – the Med sun is strong.

  • Reusable water bottle – hydration is key.

Personal Essentials

  • Passport & ID – required for travel and marina registration.

  • Travel insurance documents – recommended for all attendees.

  • Toiletries & medication – bring what you need, including seasickness tablets if prone.

  • Chargers & power bank – outlets are limited on yachts.

  • Headlamp or small flashlight – for moving around at night.

Extras

  • Notebook & pen – handy for notes during briefings.

  • Small backpack – for shore excursions.

  • Earplugs / eye mask – cabins can be noisy and bright.

  • Entertainment – book, cards, music (download playlists in advance).
