We don’t expect every host to be a professional chef — but you should feel confident cooking for groups and managing a yacht galley on your own.
Our ideal candidate has:
Professional experience in a commercial kitchen or proof of successful completion of a week-long culinary course.
A genuine passion for cooking and an eagerness to learn new skills.
The ability to plan, shop, and prepare meals for groups with different dietary needs.
What can cover for lack of professional experience?
If you don’t have formal kitchen training, you can still make a strong application if you can show:
Regular experience cooking for larger groups (friends, family, community, events).
Confidence in meal planning, shopping, and budgeting.
Hospitality or customer service experience — proving you can work under pressure and keep people happy.
Creativity and adaptability when cooking with limited equipment or space.
At Host Academy, you’ll learn how to adapt your skills to a yacht environment — which is very different from cooking on land. What matters most is your attitude, willingness to improve, and ability to create enjoyable food experiences for guests.
