Yes, you can apply without the certificate. However, if you are accepted to Host Academy, you will need to complete the Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate before attending.
What is the Level 2 Food and Hygiene Certificate?
The certificate is an internationally recognised qualification that shows you understand the essentials of food safety. It covers:
Safe food storage and handling
Cooking and temperature control
Preventing cross-contamination
Personal hygiene standards
Cleaning and food preparation practices
What do the levels mean?
Level 1 – Basic awareness of food safety. Suitable for people who work around food but don’t prepare or handle it directly.
Level 2 – Required for hosts at Yacht Week. Focuses on anyone who regularly prepares and handles food for groups of people.
Level 3 and above – For supervisors or managers who oversee food preparation and safety.
Where can I get it?
Online through accredited providers (many offer quick, affordable courses that can be completed in a few hours).
In-person training through hospitality schools, colleges, or local government–approved providers.
Prices usually range from €15–€50 for an online Level 2 course.
You must complete the course and upload your certificate to your Quarterdeck profile before Host Academy. Without it, you cannot begin your training.
