Assignments are made by Quarterdeck’s operations team with several factors in mind:
Fair distribution – We try to ensure students receive a similar number of weeks.
Performance – Students who perform very well at Academy may have a slightly higher chance of being offered more weeks.
Initial reviews – After your first few assignments, your guests, managers (lead skippers/hosts), and teammates will review you. Based on this feedback, we assess if you’re ready to handle higher-demanding guests, larger yachts, or different cruise styles, and we may re-plan your season accordingly.
Attitude over perfection – What matters most is being a team player, a nice person, and showing ambition. You don’t need to be “technically perfect” from day one. Our motto is Quality. Delivered. Together. — the “Together” part is key.
Skills & background – Assignments may also be influenced by your specific skill set, such as cultural awareness, language skills, or experience with particular cruise styles requested by guests.
Our industry is all about people — and with so many moving parts, flexibility, professionalism, and teamwork are the qualities that truly shape assignments.
