No, sailing experience is not required to join Host Academy. Hosts are primarily responsible for creating amazing guest experiences through food, hospitality, and energy on board. That said, you will live and work on a sailing yacht, so being comfortable at sea is essential. During Academy you’ll receive basic seamanship training, enough to help you move around safely, support your skipper, and feel at home in the yacht environment.
What matters most is your culinary ability, adaptability, social skills, and team spirit. Many of our best hosts had little or no prior sailing background before Academy — but they came ready to learn and embrace life at sea.
