How much does it cost to hire a yacht host?

Industry pricing bands for yacht host and private chef placements: weekly, daily, and monthly rates, plus the factors that drive variation (yacht size, role, lead time, fleet vs single yacht).

Yacht host and private chef placements are priced by the week as standard. Daily and monthly rates are also available. Pricing varies primarily by yacht size, the role's responsibilities, and the level of professionalism required.

Standard pricing bands

These figures are general industry references for placements on yachts of typical charter size (40 to 70ft, where most yacht-host work happens):

  • €1,000 to €2,100 per week for placement on a yacht charter

  • €100 to €300 per day when stretching a weekly placement (10 days, two weeks, etc.)

  • Roughly €4,000 to €9,000 per month for full-time placement, depending on yacht size, scope, and length of commitment

Single-day gigs as a private chef typically run higher (€300 to €500) because of travel logistics. We source local staff where possible to keep these costs reasonable. See our per-day pricing article for the full breakdown.

Why pricing varies

The biggest single driver is yacht size, which affects guest numbers, kitchen complexity, and crew structure:

  • Smaller yachts (40 to 70ft). Typically a yacht host: a combined chef and steward role. Pricing sits within the standard band.

  • Larger yachts (70ft plus, with crew teams of 4 to 12). Roles separate out into specialised positions (head chef, sous chef, chief steward, steward and stewardess, etc.) with higher pricing per role.

Other factors:

  • Lead time vs short-notice cover. Pre-planned hires booked at the start of the season usually land at the lower end. Short-term vacancy or last-minute replacement lands higher because of the operational pressure on both sides. See our peak season article for more on availability and short-notice cover.

  • Single yacht vs full fleet or seasonal commitment. Volume discounts apply on full-fleet solutions and longer-term placements. Specific terms are negotiated case by case.

  • Role and service level. A yacht host (chef plus steward combo) prices differently to a dedicated private chef supported by service staff.

  • Specialised skills. Multilingual hosts, dietary specialists, and chefs with named-restaurant CVs can command higher rates on specific charters where those skills are part of what the operator is selling.

Region

Region matters less than yacht size. The same band applies broadly across Mediterranean, Caribbean, and other charter regions. What changes within a region is mostly availability and local market norms, not the placement rate itself.
