Here’s how it works:
Sailing Academy is not a pass/fail course.
It’s a practical training week to make you more confident handling a 40–50 ft yacht: manoeuvring, docking, basic skipper knowledge and good habits on board. Everyone comes to improve, not to “get a grade”.
If you apply for both Sailing Academy and Skipper Academy:
We will only admit you to Sailing Academy if, in our assessment, that extra week of training gives you a realistic chance of passing Skipper Academy afterwards.
That’s our honest, professional judgement – not a guarantee. You still need to show the skills, attitude and safety mindset during Skipper Academy.
Why we’re strict about this:
Quarterdeck’s main interest is that Skipper Academy participants pass, because we have real work waiting for every successful student. The academy isn’t run as a profit-centre; it exists so we have enough well-trained skippers for the upcoming season.
Sailing Academy can be your pathway into Skipper Academy and makes you better prepared – but the final result in Skipper Academy always depends on your performance during that course.
